Uber is on growth fast track, India is second biggest market

Uber started its India operation in 2013 where its rival OLA started operation in 2011. Today OLA has bigger presence and doing more number of trips per day then Uber. Uber expading its business and user base very fast. Currently it operates in 20 Indian cities where guwahati (first north east city indian for Uber ) and vadodara (a gujrati city between ahmedabad and Surat uber is present in both cities.)is new addition. Uber will expand upto 50 cities by year end.

Uber its city presence Uber is expanding its payment options as well. Yesterday they have announced to tie up with Airtel Money as alternative payment to Paytm Wallet. Uber's other payment options are cash, credit card, debit card available for all indian city. Uber is testing Cash payment system totally new to the Uber system, Uber changed its philosophy of cashless travel in India.

Indian passengers are not comfortable with credit card / debit card payment, so Uber introduced Cash payment system like OLA already has but some of the drivers complain about his feature as some of the customers are rigid in paying the fare if surge is applied or they had first free ride but not applied correctly due to some reason .(How to Set location properly to apply first free ride).

Uber is more aggressive than most. The ride-hailing service currently operates in more than 60 countries. In the U.S., you can hail an Uber in more than 150 cities. The company recently said it plans to spend $1 billion in China and another $1 billion in India to grow its business. Chief Executive Travis Kalanack said he expects the China market to exceed the market in the United States.

That's got some observers worried.

"When everyone has the Uber app, every driver is using Uber, and everyone is connected through Uber, there's going to be no room for anyone else to start a dispatching service," said Evan Rawley, associate professor at Columbia Business School.

At that point, the company can increase its rates and reduce its spending on subsidies.

"It's bargain-then-rip-off pricing," Rawley said. "Classic network effect."

Still, Uber faces stiff competition in India and China, where one ride-hailing company, Didi Kuaidi, is partly financed by China's sovereign wealth fund.

Uber is on pace to collect $2 billion from riders this year

Uber's 20 percent cut from the cost of rides it provides should add up to $2 billion in revenue this year, a nearly tenfold increase over 2013, the latest in a series of leaked financial documents suggest.

Revenue could top $5 billion in 2016, also according to an investor presentation obtained by Reuters.

Uber Hyderabad Fares Increased Silently, uberSUV not costliest in India

Uber Hyderabad have increased its fare and now became the costliest ride in India if you use uberSUV. uberSUV has only INNOVA cars nothing else. Uber Bangalore has increased its UberBLACK fares recently now Uber Hyderabad increased its fare.

There was no intimation from Uber, no mail, no SMS nothing but they have sent message to Uber Drivers , that fares have increased and now they can earn more. Now onward their trip bonus will be reduced to almost nothing.

A Uber Driver partner named Pappu, shown me Uber message and asked me , if this fare will apply while paying to drivers or customers too. He was worried if fares have increased them earning will drop, because Now customer will prefer OLA or uberX service in place of UberSUV.

Pappu bought INNOVA on loan for three months and has to pay 25k per month as EMI, so has to work hard. He is worried that if customer will drop or trip bonus is stopped (which is likely to happen in Hyderabad), how will he survive. Like Pappu there are many drivers who bought new cars , depending upon Uber income.

Tips are not required, not expected, but greatly appreciated.

Uber cancellation charge: How to get your Money back if it's not your fault

Low-cost taxi service Uber is sweeping through the cities of India and most passengers reach their destination without a hitch.

But the app, which connects licensed private hire drivers with those looking for a ride, charges you minimum ride charges around Rs 150/- if you cancel a ride more than five minutes after you booked.

This might stop drunks summoning drivers for no reason, but it can be a pain if there is a genuine problem with your ride or network or mobile or something else.

How to cancel a ride and get your Money back

If you cancel the ride within five minutes of booking there is no charge.

If you cancel afterwards, you will be charged. But if there’s a genuine reason, reply to Uber telling the company what happened.

An Uber spokesman said: “If a rider had to cancel their car because of a driver issue, they simply need to reply to the receipt they receive from us and let us know what happened and we will refund it.”

“In the case of Uber, you shouldn't be charged the cancellation fee if the driver cancels the booking due to being unable to locate you.

“On the other hand, if you've cancelled the booking yourself because the driver can't find you, then you may be charged.

However, in our experience with Uber, we've found that they have a very reasonable customer service support team, and are likely to refund any reasonable requests.”

UBER POLICY : I WAS CHARGED A CANCELLATION FEE

You may cancel your request without charge for up to 5 minutes after your driver accepts your trip.

Cancellations made after 5 minutes will incur a fee to compensate your driver for his or her time. If your driver waits more than five minutes after arriving at your request location and cancels the trip, you will be charged a cancellation fee.

Please note: if your driver is running more than 5 minutes behind the provided ETA, you will not be charged a cancellation fee.

What’s the Uber cancellation policy?

That’s a question uber get a lot – and until now, like a bad Facebook status, it was complicated. Drivers feeling burned after long pickups. Riders getting surprised by drivers showing up in 30 seconds (yes, it happens :) …)

Now, you will be charged a cancellation fee only if you cancel more than 5 minutes after your driver has been assigned.

Why the change?

Simplicity – Peace of mind knowing you have 5 minutes to cancel in case something comes up.
Fairness – Drivers make a commitment to come to you after they accept a trip request. It costs them time and money to get to you. After more than 5 minutes, it’s only fair that drivers are compensated for the time spent.
A Better Uber – When riders cancel frequently, drivers feel burned and are less likely to accept pickups. This leads to drivers rejecting longer pickups or calling clients to make sure that they want a pickup. Uber is efficient and elegant transportation. Unnecessary phone calls and rejected pickups are not Uber.

The fine print:

If you cancel within 5 minutes, you won’t be charged.
If you tap the cancel button after 5 minutes, we will let you know that a fee will apply if you confirm the cancellation.
If for any reason your driver takes too long to get to you (the current ETA prediction for your driver shows the driver would arrive 5 minutes over the original ETA we provided) then the cancellation charge will be waived.
If you are not at the pickup location or your driver cannot get in touch with you, our cancellation fee will still apply.
So be sure to cancel as soon as possible to avoid a charge and more importantly, maintain the Uber equilibrium of happy riders and happy drivers :) And as always, if you have a question about a charge, just reply to your email receipt or reach out to your city’s community manager.

Cancellation fees are applied automatically by the system when a trip is cancelled after five minutes.

Since it doesn't seem that this fee was charged fairly in this case, I added the amount of your cancellation fee to your account. (Money reflected in my Paytm Account)

It was a one off issue. Now my app is working fine in all the network cases. I just pointed out to say that due to network issue I was charged for trip cancellation.

Sorry to hear about the trouble with this.Happy to lend a hand so you can get riding again.I would request you to please elaborate the concern .

This issue most often pops up when a wireless network interferes with your phone’s connection to Uber. The best way to fix this would be to switch your phone off of the WiFi network and use your cellular data connection to connect to Uber.

If you're seeing this issue only while on your cellular connection and not over WiFi, it’s likely a carrier issue that we aren't able to address. Calling them directly to resolve may be your best bet.

Let me know if this issue persists — changing your account password, and deleting and reinstalling the app are some other steps we can try to get you moving.

I was in Pune for a Day and network was very bad in mobile on the location, After booking when I connected back I realized the location picked by app was wrong so I cancelled it. I tried to book it again but then again same network problem. I asked my friend to boo it for me. However I booked few more trips on the same day.

7 Steps How to book Uber Cab and use FREE RIDE

Uber is extremely simple app to use with almost everything is already set to use. There is no need to provide any input like location, car option, payment option etc, still many people keep coming to this blog in search of truth.

Here are simple steps to book your ride.

Enable Location Service
Open Uber app in your mobile or open mobile site.
Select Cab option (UberGO, UberX, UberBLACK, UberSUV), or go with already selected one.
Touch "SET PICKUP LOCATON".
Touch "Request UberBLACK", it will start trying to connect you with nearest driver.
App comes with your Car number plate. Your Cab is booked.
Keep track of your cab on app, when it arrives, take ride.
At destination, driver completes the ride then rate your ride before taking next ride.

You get free ride when you sign up with any promotion code, or when you refer some one by giving your referral code. When you get free ride, in your app it gets added into Payment section with expiry date. Free rides will get applied automatically, 1 per ride. You cannot combine multiple rides in one booking.

ProTip: If you know your fare is going to exceed one ride worth (around Rs 250/-) , end your trip and book another trip, if you have more then 1 free ride. Try to optimize your ride and free money.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk

Tesla CEO and its one of the big investor hints that they will be ready with self driving card by 2020 and Uber hints that they will by all of them like 500000 units. If we do a bit more calculation then it results into total $35 Billion .

The questions were met with a bit of hemming and hawing, followed by awkward silence. Here’s the exchange:

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas: [Venture capitalist and Tesla board member] Steve Jurvetson was recently quoted saying that Uber CEO Travis Kalanick told him that if by 2020, Tesla’s cars are autonomous, then he’d want to buy all of them. Is this a real—I mean, forget like the 2020 for a moment. But is this a real business opportunity for Tesla supplying cars to ridesharing firms? Or does Tesla just cut out the middleman and sell on-demand electric-mobility services directly from the company on its own platform?
Elon Musk: Hmmm, that’s an insightful question.
Adam Jonas: You don’t have to answer it.
Elon Musk: [Long pause] I think—I don’t think I should answer it.
Adam Jonas: Okay, let’s move on. … Sometimes you can tell more from the non-answer than the answer.

What doesn’t quite shine through in the transcript is how Musk seemed to clam up at the question, opening up more questions than answers about what a future Tesla-Uber tie up might look like.
